‘A Tale of Tragedy and Triumph’

Two hundred years ago, four wooden sailing ships from Falmouth were approaching the Gulf of Mexico with over 100 people and 1,500 tons of mining stores and machinery, including 8 steam engines, bound for the silver mines of Real del Monte.

On arrival, an arduous 266-mile journey from the coast to the Sierra Madre Oriental mountains lay in wait. What unfolded over the next twelve months was a truly epic story of tragedy and triumph of the great trek of the transport party.

Cornish historian, Sharron Schwartz, has visited six archives in three countries (Mexico, the United States of America and the United Kingdom) to research this incredible story.

Drawing on company and foreign office correspondence, diaries, letters and travelogues, ‘The Great Trek of the Transport Party’ will be fully brought to life at KRESEN KERNOW, Redruth, on 29th May 2025 in this exciting film premiere.

Light refreshments will be available on the night and signed copies of Sharron Schwartz’s books on the Cornish in Mexico and Latin America will be available to purchase at cut price.
